The project addresses two fundamental aspects of Earth science research: refining global chronostratigraphic frameworks through subdivision of the exceptionally long Emsian stage (Early Devonian, 17 Myr), and understanding ecosystem responses to environmental change during the global Daleje event. The excessive Emsian duration limits global correlations and, therefore, our ability to assess evolutionary and environmental patterns. By investigating the event in its type area (Prague Basin) via an integrated multidisciplinary approach (sedimentology, geochemistry, mineralogy, and paleontology), we will characterize its environmental and biotic signatures, enhancing thus global correlations. Various coeval depositional settings within the Prague Basin provide a natural laboratory for distinguishing local from regional or global signals – crucial for global correlations. Our findings will support international efforts to subdivide the Emsian stage while documenting how environmental parameters influence marine communities, offering principles applicable throughout Earth's history.
